Christmas only. Exactly as intended.

A little continental Christmas in Cumbria.

Traditional Stollen from an old Saxon family recipe, Swiss Christmas biscuits and a once-a-year baking marathon in Orkney.

Our Story

One season. A lot of baking.

Continental Crust comes to life once a year, in the run-up to Christmas.

Our Stollen is made from an old family recipe from Saxony, with roots in the Dresden Stollen tradition. Many of our Christmas biscuits follow traditional Swiss recipes: the sort of festive baking we know, remember and firmly believe belongs on the table in December.

Once a year, we head north to Papa Westray in Orkney to join our family at The Motley Way for our annual Christmas baking marathon. With the space, equipment and plenty of willing hands, a few very busy days turn into Stollen, Swiss Christmas biscuits and an unreasonable number of baking trays.

Then Continental Crust heads back south for the Christmas markets.

What We Bake

Traditional favourites for Christmas.

01

Traditional Stollen

Made to an old family recipe from Saxony, with roots in the Dresden Stollen tradition. Rich, festive and made for slicing slowly through December.

02

Swiss Christmas Biscuits

A changing selection of traditional Swiss festive biscuits, based mainly on recipes we grew up with and return to every Christmas.

03

Seasonal Extras

Occasional additional bakes may appear from year to year, depending on the market, the season and what we decide Christmas absolutely requires.

Everything is seasonal and made in limited quantities. The selection can vary between markets and events.

We appear when Christmas does.

Continental Crust is a Christmas-only venture. You’ll find us at selected seasonal markets and events, or you can contact us directly by email or in person.

We don’t run an online shop and we don’t post our bakes. Availability is limited, local and seasonal — exactly as intended.
